About
Australian–Italian lyric tenor and classical crossover artist Paul Ettore Tabone has established an international career spanning opera, musical theatre, concerts and recording. Paul is best known for his long association with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, having performed the role of Piangi approximately 1,800 times in London’s West End between 2016 and 2020. He later reprised the role in Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour and Opera Australia’s acclaimed Sydney and Melbourne seasons from 2022 to 2023. His musical-theatre career also includes the original Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, in which he played Squelch. Paul appeared in the filmed production released internationally on DVD and television before reprising the role in the German-language production in Hamburg. On the operatic stage, Paul’s principal roles have included the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto in Venice and with the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, Emperor Altoum in Turandot in Florence, and Ben/Cover in Opera Queensland’s The Dirty Apple. Paul was selected as a Young Artist of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation and has appeared in prestigious Pavarotti heritage concerts in New York, Bologna and Spoleto. In 2013, he performed as part of the Arena di Verona’s centenary celebrations. He was also selected as a Young Artist with the Teatro Carlo Felice Opera Studio in Genoa. His concert work has taken him throughout Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. His productions celebrating the music of Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli and the great Italian tenors combine operatic repertoire with contemporary classical crossover favourites. In 2025, Paul released his album This Is Me, which reached No. 1 on the ARIA Classical Crossover Chart. Alongside his performing career, Paul is the co-founder and Head of Agency at The Artists Lab, supporting and developing the next generation of professional performers.
