About
Gianna Cheung is a Chinese-Australian creative, musician, and stage performer based in Sydney. With a musical journey that began at the age of three, she has built a rich and eclectic career across both classical music and musical theatre. She holds AMusA diplomas in piano (2014) and flute (2015), and completed her Bachelor of Music (Music Theatre) at the Australian Institute of Music in 2021. A seasoned and versatile musician, Gianna has performed extensively as both a soloist and ensemble player, with experience spanning chamber groups, orchestras, and studio sessions. Her classical work has seen her share the stage with renowned ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony, and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. In parallel with her performance career, Gianna has also built a vibrant portfolio as a music director and creative, particularly within Sydney’s independent theatre scene, where she brings a collaborative and music-led approach to storytelling. Recent professional credits include Lord of the Rings: A Musical Tale (GWB Productions) - Ensemble; Little Women (Josh Robson Productions) - Music Director; Ride the Cyclone (Hayes Theatre Co) - Keys 2, Interim Music Director; and The Dismissal (Squabbalogic) - Assistant Music Director and Music Copyist. Alongside her performance work, Gianna is a dedicated music educator who is passionate about sharing her deep love for music and cultivating positive, nurturing environments for artists to collaborate in. She is also an advocate for diversity in the arts, committed to creating inclusive and empowering spaces where creativity and representation can thrive. She served as the elected Musician Co-Chair of the MEAA Entertainment Diversity Committee in 2025, and continues her advocacy through both her award-winning music school, G Major Studios, and her new company, Stay Gold Creative.
