About

David Catterall is a Sydney-based music director, pianist, flautist and accompanist with a passion for musical theatre and collaborative music-making. As a Music Director, David has worked across a wide range of musical theatre productions, bringing together singers, musicians and creative teams with an approach that is organised, supportive and enthusiastic. He is equally at home in the orchestra pit, performing on piano, keyboards and flute, and regularly works as a rehearsal pianist and audition accompanist. His professional credits include work with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, including as a repetiteur for The Golden Age of Broadway at the Sydney Opera House. His work with productions at Hayes Theatre Co has included The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Producers and The Addams Family. David has also performed as part of the live orchestral presentation of La La Land in Concert. Alongside his theatre work, David founded Musical Theatre Brunch Choir, a community-focused ensemble bringing adults together through musical theatre repertoire. He established the choir from the ground up and continues to arrange its music and provide musical direction, developing accessible arrangements that allow singers with varied levels of experience to perform together. David particularly enjoys the collaborative nature of theatre and is known for being friendly, dependable, well-prepared and easy to work with. Whether leading a production, supporting performers in rehearsal, accompanying an audition or joining an orchestra, he brings a calm and positive approach, strong musicianship and a genuine enthusiasm for helping performers do their best work.
